Exercise Right Week 2022

This week is exercise right week, an annual awareness campaign held in the last full week of May every year to bring attention to the benefits of exercise and how it can assist people with their health and wellbeing. There is a theme every year, for instance last year the theme was ‘Exercise Changes Lives’. Through the power of exercise, you can take charge of your health, take charge of your well-being and take charge of your life!

This year in 2022, the theme is ‘exercise for the right reasons’.

I visited the exerciseright.com.au page to get a full understanding of what the theme means and it really is a great theme. It talks about not making exercise a chore, not exercising for a punishment for eating poorly, not just focussing on weight loss. Exercise to help your mental health, exercise to help your heart health, use exercise to connect with people. This year's theme about exercising for the right reasons really resonates with The Allied Health Team. It is our hope that exercise becomes enjoyable and that things like weight loss become simply a by-product of doing exercise for the right reasons rather than a primary focus and that exercise becomes something that you look forward to and not a punishment for a big weekend.

The Exercise Right website gives their top reasons for partaking in exercise and they include:

  • Move your mood

    • Mental Health: We're highlighting how staying active can improve your mood and mental health

  • Heal your Heart

    • Heart Health: It's Australia's biggest killer, so learn how moving more protects your heart.

  • Brace your Body

    • Physical Health: Everyone, regardless of health, can physically benefit from moving more!

  • Boost your Brain

    • Brain Health: Exercise can boost cognitive performance and help to protect against brain conditions.

  • Gather your Group

    • Social Health: With more Aussies than ever experiencing loneliness, exercise can connect people.

  • Spoil your Self

    • Self Care: Lastly, we want to finish the week with a gentle reminder it's NOT selfish to prioritise your health and take time to yourself to exercise. Show your body you love it by moving more!

Each one of these are elaborated on over at www.exerciseright.com.au so take the time to check it out.

Let's have a look within ourselves and see the real reason we are deciding to become physically active. Think about some of the things that exercise has helped in your life.
